February made me shiver

Thu Feb 19, 2009, 1:43 PM
In case anyone was wondering the title of this journal is from Don McLean's American Pie.
It's pretty cold here in Hungary at the moment and I have to deal with some personal issues that I won't discuss here. /I'm also listening to the song at the moment as I wanted to check out the spelling of McLean's name.. :blushes:/

It's beautiful and snowy, but the cold/wind makes me shed tears all the time I go out, even if I wear sunglasses.

Tomorrow I'm going to teach my first English lesson in three years for a group of students. I'm a bit anxious about it. I'm actually substituting for someone this and next week, but I might sign a contract with a language school and might get regular teaching jobs. I actually have a diploma as an English and German teacher, but I never really thought about teaching at a language school. I'm a bit nervous. I'm going to teach a group of 4 and a group of 3 ADULTS and I'm a worryguts. They probably won't all attend my classes as they have a tendency of skipping classes and late cancellations.
A Methodology training course is going to be held on Saturday at this language school and I really should attend it, but I would like to get some rest over the weekend. :(

I'm glad I managed to finish Pretty Miss this week. There's another piece I started about a month ago. Every now and then I add a few brushstrokes to it, but I'm way too slow. I haven't had much time/energy lately as the my new term at the university started and I have more duties at home.

I think of this piece as a kind of a "sister" to Pretty Miss . Pretty miss was painted for me and "Gift" for my sister. I think I'd like to add a few more African animals to my gallery, but I don't know when it's going to happen.

I hope Spring will come soon. At least it's been a lot sunnier lately.

Greetings to everyone who reads this journal!

Ha! Usually, your English is impeccable although this journal has a couple of errors. "English lesson for a group of students in a 3 years." should be 'my first English lesson in three years for a group of students.' And it is 'substituting for'. It's 'worrywart', not "worrygut". Wow! The very thought of teaching must really have you stressed out for you to make so many mistakes in your English. Relax! Don't worry about it. Your English is far better than a lot of Americans'. I'm sure you will do just fine and it could lead to some interesting careers like even being an interpreter.

Ne aggódj biztos jó leszel, én drukkolok.
Amúgy felnőttekkel dolgozni jó buli csak néha tör rájuk a gyerekes viselkedés. :3
Első órán én is izgulni szoktam egy új csoportnál de utána már minden ok. A végén még lehet megszereted a tanítást.

Thank you for taking your time correcting my mistakes :thanks:
"worryguts" is a phrase an English friend of mine uses. I don't know if he made it up, or it's a British version of worrywart. :?

The first lesson went smoothly and the second lesson got cancelled, just 15 minutes before the lesson.

Thank you! :) I'm doing a MA course in English and I've been thinking about doing a translation or interpreting course next year.

I love that song!! I am in summer right now, it is very hot over here :). Congratulations about your new job, it is really awesome!! And I think you will be fine. You are very prepared. And about your students, if they are people who are paying for the english lessons, then don't worry about it. They will want to get the best out of their money, so they will behave. Just tell them how important is to go to classes, in order to achieved the goals of the course.

The term "worry gut" must be his own version as it isn't even listed in either American or English slang dictionaries much less the main dictionaries. The main dictionary term for both countries worrywart or worry-wart or worry wart, listed in order of preference of spelling. Not a problem to correct your English. It is usually so good that no corrections are needed. This really gave me an insight into just how worried you were but you shouldn't be since your English is very good, indeed.

I'm glad the lesson went so well.

You are welcome. Yes, this could lead to good things for you in the future (as long as it doesn't distract too much from your wonderful art as you are so talented in this area, too!).

I typed in "worryguts" into yahoo and there were quite a few hits. I think it's not an official form like "worrywart", but still used, maybe mostly in the UK.

Thank you. I'll try to devote some more time to developing my drawing/painting skills, but I've been a bit too busy these past few weeks.

Thank you for caring, I really appreciate it :thanks:
